To experience native plants and fresh air, look no further than the Northaven Trail. This lovely green belt in North Dallas stretches 9 miles, mostly flat, and connects neighborhoods in Northaven, by Denton Drive, to Royal Oaks, near the Central Expressway. The fun doesn’t stop, though. From here, bikers and joggers can link via a magnificent pedestrian bridge over U.S. Highway 75 to both Whiterock Creek Trail and Cottonwood Trail.
The prairie trail has been maintained as a natural space for wildflowers, annuals and perennials, and grasses. Insects, birds, and small mammals benefit from this biodiversity and have flourished. Pet waste stations provide bags, to assist owners in keeping the path pristine. Emergency locations are indicated by numerous 911 signs. Parking is available at any of six locations.
The path is well-signed, in good condition for biking or running, and features many flowering perennials, such as this butterfly bush, or buddleja, growing along the trail.
At the east end of the trail, a $9.3 million bridge, featuring a 201-foot long arch, rises 50 feet above a pedestrian deck.
